Cemetery Cleanup April 1, 2027
Spring Cemetery Cleanup starts April 1, 2027. The spring cleanup is always scheduled for April 1st. At that time all florals, real and artificial, and all decorations other than the shepherd hooks will be removed. All items that are on the gravesites and shepherd hooks will be removed, no exceptions. Items that are prohibited are subject to removal throughout the year. Please refrain from bringing them out. Please consult the decorating guidelines on the website or contact the office for what is allowed. If you are concerned about any of your decorations, please come out or send a friend or family member out to remove the items no later than last week of March. It is the responsibility of the family to keep track of the calendar and where Easter falls and plan accordingly. Please don't bring spring flowers out until cleanup has ended.
Revision of Decorating Guidelines and Rules and Regulations
The Board of Directors asked for a review of our decorating guidelines and rules and regulations. They asked for a comparison between ours and 10 large cemeteries in the area. There were four cemeteries which are non-profits like us, three corporate cemeteries owned by two different companies, a family- owned private cemetery, a municipal cemetery, and a religious cemetery. After the review, the board decided that some language needed to tighten up, we need to clear out items that aren’t allowed regularly, and most importantly, when doing Spring Clean-up, remove EVERYTHING from the gravesite and hooks with no exceptions as the guideline has been written for many years. It is recommended that shepherd hooks should be removed from the gravesite by October 31st if they’re not going to be decorated over the winter. Consider the fact that if a winter burial is done near your family's gravesite, we may have to pull the hook. We cannot replace the hook into the frozen ground or keep track of it. As always, Spring Clean Up is April 1st. It is the responsibility of the family to keep the calendar in mind when decorating for Easter since EVERYTHING at graveside and on the shepherd hook will be removed. The decorating guideline is on the website, posted in the office window, and is available from the cemetery office.
We did learn from our review that four of the cemeteries prohibit shepherd hooks, one doesn't have clear guidance and five allow one hook per gravesite. Of those five, three of them only want the hooks used for floral displays. Two of the cemeteries also prohibit windchimes and birdhouses outright. Six of the cemeteries prohibit solar lights and four don't have clear guidance. All the cemeteries prohibit statues, glass, candles, and fencing. Nine of the cemeteries have two cleanups a year and one does it weekly. At least one has a strict calendar for holiday decorating and wants notification for birthday and anniversary decorating and allows only a short window of time for the decorations. At least one cemetery prohibits artificial flowers during mowing season.
